Willem Overbeeke, who am I?
I am a Dutch citizen, vintage 1948. After having spent my childhood and formative years
in Holland, I lived outside my native country until 1999, mainly in Belgium, Germany and
Switzerland, with assignments in France, the UK, the US and Eastern Europe. I consider
this multicultural exposure an important asset in addition to my subject matter related
competencies and capabilities. Shortly before the turn of the century I took the
conscious decision to return to my roots.
My professional background can be summarised as follows:
-
4 employers, all in IT (small facilities management and application services
company (WRC), leading Belgian outsourcing/facilities management supplier
(CIG), major global all round system vendor (Digital Equipment, subsequently
COMPAQ computers), state-of-the-art world-wide middleware provider (BEA
systems)
-
Career progression from middle to senior management (functional, staff,
business, operations, corporate development, general)
-
Country, country group, EMEA and corporate-wide responsibilities.
In 1999 I was diagnosed with an adverse medical condition, which led to a significant
impairment of my physical strength and mobility. After due consideration I decided to
discontinue my employment relationship and set out in business for myself, allowing
me to define a "working style" adapted to these inherent restrictions.
